Accommodation in St AndrewsPortfolio
The brief for the project was to design a student accommodation for university of St Andrews that would also have a ‘public element’ which I chose to be a student library.
Initially we were given 3 main sites to choose from. After analysing the town I chose my site based on its proximity to the town edge and with great view overlooking the countryside. The site also seemed ‘unfinished’ and exposed, being in such prominent location it didn’t promote St Andrews’ urban success of permeability, legibility and scale.
St Regulus II (currently student accommodation) suggests possibility to build against portion of its facade that has
no essential windows. However, in order to provide main computer space and build volume around it I had to remove some of St Regulus II rooms on the ground and first floors . This as whole allowed Queen’s Terrace street frontage to be continued
